Prairieside Outpost Artist Residency program offers a unique artist residency experience–it is comfortable, private, peaceful, family-friendly and nature-oriented. While close to urban areas, it is truly an out-of-the-way place in one of the most unique geographical landscapes in the United States.
About the Residency Program.
Prairieside Outpost hosts a competitive artist residency program which welcomes 2-3 artists each year for short creative retreats. It is a uniquely family-friendly program.
Prairieside Outpost is nestled in the heart of the Flint Hills of Kansas, located in the tiny and energetic creative community of Matfield Green. The property is adjacent to town and privately situated with 8 acres of beautiful tallgrass prairie beside the cottage.
Artist Reports
We have welcomed 20 artists and writers to our residency program since it began in 2014. Each resident contributes a report to our website that documents their time and experience at the Prairieside Outpost Artist Residency.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR APPLICATION TO PRAIRIESIDE OUTPOST:
· Artists at any level in their career can apply to this program.
· Applications will be considered according to relevance and suitability to this unique opportunity.
· Artists who are new to the Kansas Flint Hills and surrounding region will be prioritized.
· Artists traveling with their families are absolutely welcome to this program.
OUR RESIDENCIES INCLUDE:
· A privately situated, charming and well-appointed family-friendly house that can comfortably fit 4 people.
· A separate studio, located adjacent to the house.
· 8 acres of private prairie land surrounding the house.
· Access to the local arts community and galleries in Matfield Green and Chase County, Kansas.
· An easy walk or scenic drive in open range land within the Flint Hills.
· Artist residencies awarded through our competitive program typically last 7-14 days, and require no fee to participate.
RESIDENTS MUST PROVIDE:
· Your own transportation.
· Food throughout your stay.
· An artist report on our website about their experience at Prairieside Outpost.
